WILLIAM ZHANG
The Ropes of Time
I stand peering into an endless void
Watching the strands of space
And time as they escape me,
Tethered to a boundless koi,
Moving our universe behind it
It swims forwards
In a sea of infinite
Stars and galaxies,
Joining its brethren,
Each towing their own universes behind them.
I try to follow them.
But I am trapped,
Tied to the ropes of time,
Binding me to the anchor of now,
Sinking further and further into the present
This I can only see through my omniscient soul.
The stars, the galaxies, the universes,
The infinity and the void.
But I am forever trapped, in a mortal shell;
Forever confined, in a grain of sand, buried in an infinite beach.
One step away
An infinite sea,
But I am a mere speck of dust among trillions more,
Forever still like those before.
Forever bound by the here and now.
Forever tethered by the ropes of time.
