Chasing Butterflies
Do you still remember the butterflies of our youth?
It danced gracefully in the air,
As if showing off its brilliant wings.
You looked at it and laughed, laughed with youth and innocence,
Laughed with a childish energy that can melt away the winters of life.
Suddenly, the butterfly landed on the tip of your nose,
For a moment, time freezes, as two pairs of eyes look into each other,
Then you laughed again, laughed with an infinite purity,
Laughed with enough energy to coax the blossoming of a sea of flowers.
But how could a butterfly understand laughter's meaning?
It could only leave you, and fly to the flower patch far away.
You ran after the butterfly, carrying your laughter with you.
But as you were chasing, you realize that
Your ankles became bound with shackles of responsibility,
Your shoulders became loaded with a backpack of knowledge,
Your ethereal giggle turned into a heavy sigh.
All of a sudden, you've lost sight of it.
That butterfly had already vanished into that blossoming flower patch,
Leaving your resigned silhouette, leaving your sparkling tears.
Because you know, it will never come back again.
